Malabon City (Tourism)❣️

Hi, it’s me again Shella, I just want to invite all of you to our beautiful city, Malabon.

Malabon City is not new to our ears. We know its location, its demographics, but what we don’t know, Malabon is full of history and culture. Malabon City is one of the cities in Metro Manila with truly rich emerging destinations.

If you want to enjoy your summer vacation, you must visit Malabon and see the humble beauty of it. ヾ(@^▽^@)ノ

Hope to see you soon here in our city! 🤗

Here are the lists of the famous Tourist spots in Malabon that you must visit!

1. San Bartolome Church

San Bartolome Church is a Roman Catholic church located in Poblacion, Malabon. The church’s eponymous is Malabon’s patron saint, Saint Bartholomew the Apostle whose feast day falls on every 24th day of August.

A former visitor of Tondo, Malabon was established on May 21, 1599. In 1614, it became an independent parish, with Father Luis Gutierrez as vicar prior. When Father Diego de Robles became prior of Malabon in 1621, he began the construction of the first stone church a year after.

A simple yet elegant retablo can be found in the chancel where the icon of Saint Bartholomew the Apostle is surrounded by the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary above, the tabernacle below, and St. Augustine and St. Nicholas de Tolentine on both sides. Things to Do in Malabon

During World War II, San Bartolome Church endured heavy damages and restoration began only in 1951 under the secular priest Father Trinidad. San Bartolome Church now has seven bells, two of which are devoted to Santa Rita and one to San Bartolome, the patron saint.

2. Immaculada De Concepcion Malabon

It is a small Church, but interiors are well kept and beautiful. The image of Immaculate Conception of this church is one of the few Marian images in the Philippines that is canonically crowned. This church is always an option for weddings because of it’s beautifully crafted design.

Immaculada Concepcion De Malabon Church was established by Augustine priests. It was made of rocks during the 1866 but has been destroyed by an earthquake in 1880. It has been used by the Iglesia Filipino Indipendiente as their church.

3. The Sy Juco House/Mansion

If you love heritage houses, then this one is a must-visit. The Sy Juco House was built in 1869, used as a school, a tobacco factory, and a private home for a Swiss-Filipino family.

This home was spared from the war because the Swiss flag flew conspicuously at the window during the years of Japanese occupation. The original parts of the house remain to this day.

Truly, a must-visit if you are looking for ancestral houses built during the Spanish Era.

4. The Ibaviosa House and the Patis Factory

The Ibaviosa House was originally made of bamboo and nipa. It was completed in the early 1940s. This pre-war ancestral house owned by the Ibaviosas was said to have seen and endured the Filipino-Japanese

Beside the house is their Patis Factory.  The Ibaviosa family is known in the city for their successful product, Malabon Patis.

5. Angel Cacnio Gallery

This gallery and home hold the best collection of Angel Cacnio’s creativity works, sculptures, and best paintings, not only by him but also from his sons and other paintings of Malabon artists collected by his wife.

Angel Cacnio was a recipient of numerous citations due to his art legacies including the design of our P100 and P20 pesos bills. Some coins which circulated in 1982 and 1983 were said to have been his designs too, as well as the Malabon Landmark icon along Letre Road.

6. Lugaw Experience

One of the best tasting lugaw in Malabon. It was owned by Narcisa Domondon Pangan since 1984. Her legacy of the best tasting lugaw was inherited by her son Renante. Up until today, they have the same taste and quality of food being served to every customer. The store is located just across the Ibaviosa House.

Every morning, the store is filled with customers ordering their lugaw as they have found that Narcisa’s lugaw is the best and its taste never fades.

7. Dolor’s Kakanin

Mention the name “Dolor’s” and a particular kakanin or rice delicacy instantly comes to mind—sapin-sapin. Neatly placed on a bilao (circular bamboo tray), this rainbow-colored treat is made with glutinous rice flour, sugar, condensed milk, and cold-pressed coconut cream.

Each layer of color corresponds to a particular flavor: white for cassava, purple for kalamay ube, red for kutsinta, yellow for maja mais, and brown at the center for biko. Half of the outermost part is a sapin-sapin, divided into three shades of white, yellow, and purple. This soft and gooey treat is typically served with latik (toasted coconut curd) and a generous sprinkling of budbod (toasted coconut bits).

Dolor’s Kakanin has long been established since 1930. With more than 80 years of serving puto, kutsinta, sapin-sapin, and few more rice cakes and other delicacies, Dolor’s Kakanin is the best in terms of quality and taste.

8. Nanay’s Pancit Malabon

Nanay’s Pancit Malabon started sharing the family recipe in the 80s located along Governor Pascual Ave cor Sto. Rosario Village, Concepcion, Malabon City.

It is a flavorful noodle dish that originated in the City of Malabon. This dish resembles the Pancit Palabok but the array of seafood toppings and the traditional tough and thick rice noodles distinguishes this dish.

The reason why this noodle dish seems like a complete seafood sampler is because of the city’s location. Malabon is situated in a coastal area wherein most of the major fish markets are located. The city is also a few minutes away from the huge fish ports of Navotas.

Some of the common seafood ingredients of Pancit Malabon are shrimp, smoked fish flakes (tinapa flakes), and squid. Oysters (talaba) and mussels (tahong) can also be used depending on your preference.

9. Malabon Zoo and Aquarium

The Malabon Zoo and Aquarium, which is actually a home-grown animal sanctuary. The zoo boasts various animals such as tigers, lions, dogs, monkeys, snakes, fish and birds. However, the zoo is relatively small and it’s sad to see the animals being placed in small cages or confined spaces. The walk area is also narrow and it doesn’t really give a very comfortable feeling. It would be nice to see the zoo expand in terms of space to allow the animals and visitors to wander freely.

The aquarium is housed in a building and it also had a sort of library where lots of books on animals and general knowledge are kept. I think that is an interesting concept as visitors can actually read during their visit, though maybe there could be a space provided to do this in comfort. Another plus point is that the entire area is quite shady, sheltered with lots of greenery – trees and plants. Besides that, on the walls of the zoo, there are many inspirational quotes about life and morality, very interesting read while walking around. And you also get to get up close with an orangutan.

All these could be visited manually or thru booking Malabon’s Tricycle Tour. We prefer the latter as Malabon City and big and could get you lost. All their tricycle drivers in the tour are well-trained to the places and could serve as your tour guides too.

I never thought rediscovering my hometown can be this fun. I’ve learned so much and felt even prouder to be a Malabonian. I knew Malabon has a lot in store, but I didn’t know it has a lot (I just knew some) of old houses, beautiful galleries and stunning churches that are so impressive.

The concept of a “Tricycle Tour” is something new, and a truly Pinoy way to get to know a place. In this case, Malabon. “We have a 400-year-old church, historical heritage houses of well-known political personalities and artists, and good food destinations, which is a big part of Philippine history. We have a lot to offer to backpackers and those beach people who come to the country,” Chef Melissa Sison-Oreta said.

Although not entirely a tourist destination in Metro Manila, I still urge everyone to check out Malabon and try the Malabon Tricycle Tours. Apart from these historical and cultural destinations we visited, you can also choose to add trips to Malabon restaurants from a list of #VisitMalabon2019-approved eateries. 🍽

Traveling need not be expensive. Sure, Malabon is not home to beaches or lush forests, but if you want a different kind of city tour, give the Malabon Tricycle Tours a go. And if you’re a Malabonian, or used to live in Malabon, then you should definitely consider rediscovering your hometown, just like what I did. It’s fun, accessible, very inexpensive, and really good for street photography!😁📸

How to be a media and information literate individual?

Media and Information is a complex set of systems and an array of information presented through various mediums.” — Anne Lombardi

Media literacy is the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and create media. Youth and adults are better able to understand the complex messages we receive from television, radio, internet, newspapers, magazines, books, billboards, video games, music, and all other forms of media. An understanding of the purpose, goals, aims and craft of creating media is required. Media must be evaluated, and the consumer must be able to identify types of media and the goal of the creators in creating and presenting the media.

Information literacy is simply the ability to evaluate the merit of the information, know where to find the information needed and use and curate it to aid in numerous tasks and purposes. Information literacy is a crucial skill in the pursuit of knowledge. It involves recognizing when information is needed and being able to efficiently locate, accurately evaluate, effectively use, and clearly communicate information in various formats.

In today’s generation, we easily access all information in media in just one click. Sadly, too much information today is false, fake and twisted. The sheer number of people spreading fake information scares me. They are lack of having knowledge about how these things may affects everyone lives.

So here’s the question, “how to be a media and information literate individual?”.

Being able to do the following, even at a beginner stage, would demonstrate media and information literacy:

(1) Accessing media and information: Using technical skills for accessing suitable media and information sources. (2) Using media and information: content decoding skills and responsible strategies for applying content to one’s daily life. The knowledge has no use to you until you find ways to put it into practice. We also need to put on our mind that we must use information effectively, ethically and creatively. (3) Evaluating media and information: This is the ability to judge the credibility, accuracy and objectivity of sources. This is especially important when you are a student preparing a research paper, an employee doing a presentation for your higher ups or even pitching to future investors. Taking the time to check the credibility and accuracy of the information you are sharing is very important. (4) Creating media and information: critical attitude and skills in how to construct media and information. This is also another excellent way to demonstrate your understanding of the media and information you are utilizing. (5) Participating in media: critical attitudes and knowledge of where and how to interact with journalists and editors of media, as well as with other citizens via old and new media. (6) Knowing how media work: knowledge about media and information systems, organizations, routines and effects. (7) Demanding media quality and rights: critical demand for and defense of good media and information sources.

Having sufficient experience in each of the tenets above, even at a lower level, qualifies someone to be referred to as media and information literate individual.

Position Paper ❣️

Hiiii it’s shellabs!!

So here’s our position paper about “Regulating Internet Cafes Near Schools”

Hope you enjoy reading it! It’s worth it, honey.

“Regulating Internet Cafes Near Schools”

( A position paper)

As the popularity of internet as a source of information. It continues to grow and anyone can use it to gather data in a certain topic in a easier and fastest way than other sources of information. Internet is used by the students and professionals to get factual data that can be use in different academic aspects. Nowadays, because of the usage of the internet, there is an in demand business called internet cafe that is affordable by the students and it is near schools to help and can be used by everyone in citing informations. But because of this internet cafes, the students are now depending on this source of information and there are some circumstances that they are using it in other activities like playing online games that is resulting in not attending in their classes and giving their time in using internet that leads to internet addiction. The internet cafes is regulated by the local government and there are rules that they have to obey for the sake of students that are constantly addicted in computer games. Do the internet cafes really obey the rules that is implemented by the local government? and Do the government officials really regulating the internet cafes near school? Those are the questions that are disturbing ourselves and we find answers in it.

Internet Cafe’s are one of the most in demand business nowadays. But the question is, do nearby internet cafe’s really help students or just distracts them?Maybe, in some other way internet cafe’s may help students but honestly it can distract and damage them more. Here are some effects of internet cafe’s in students: First, students cut or skip class just play their favorite game in the internet cafe’s such as DOTA, LOL, Crossfire etc. The time that their consuming is the money that they’re spending. And because they aren’t aware of the time that they’re using the money that they will pay is getting higher and higher causing of Budget Shortage. And because of budget shortage, their is a high posibility that they will skip meal or they will not eat at all. They will just save it for later because they will play again later. Risking their health just to play their game. Second, the cyberbullying that may occur through their trashtalkings, that can cause bad behavior and manners. Third, because of the time that they’re spending in the Internet cafe’s while wearing their uniform causing them to go home late, their parents blaming the school.Internet cafe near in the should be regulated since it’s one of the reason why students are motivated to skip their classes. One of the testimony that the ABS CBN News reported was Adrian’s (not his real name), he said that “Niyaya ako ng mgakaklase ko na mag cutting para magcomputer” because of this Adrian failed two of his subjects. One of the very reason why internet should be regulated because if it’s not being regulated the students will come to every internet cafe near in their school and be motivated to skip their class just to play games in the computers. The Department of Education and Manila Officials declared that computer shops who will violate the order that students are not allowed to go to internet cafe during class will face suspension of their business permit. According to ABS CBN some internet cafe have a sign sayingg that students are not allpwed inside during school hours but still there are students spotted in the internet cafe that is why even the National Capital Region Police Office warned the computer shops. The DepEd made an order, DO no. 86 s. 2010, ‘prohibiting students in public and private elementary and secondary schools from going to computer shops, malls, theaters, and the likes during their class hours.’ This order should to be followed by the students for them to keep in track in their academics and to not skip their class. Internet cafe especially near in the school should also participate this order by prohibiting the students to enter their shops during school hours so that the students will not be motivated to go to internet cafe and for them to be not motivated to skip their classes. Regulating the internet cafe should be implemented.

We all know that computer addiction of young teens became severe here in the Philippines because of Internet cafes that have been established near schools.Beside the fact that the government also indeed agree on this certain issue. We cannot force ourselves to argue with them, there’s a lot of wrong doings and actions that can prove that the Internet cafes near school are affecting the academic performance of the students.

Students are not allowed to go to Internet café during class hours and they must not play games on Internet café near the school because it will likely show that schools or school in-charge are the ones encouraging the students to engage on abusive use of Internet. So what’s the sense of putting up an Internet café near the school?

Government officials who are in-charge on our security are the ones who should implement policies for these matters. So for the possible solution are Internet café owners who violate the rules should have sanctions. First offense is one week suspension of their operating hours. And for the following offense their Internet café should be close right away. Internet café who implements and follow policies should have a reward worth complete set of a computer. Hence, it’s better to think of our own safety and especially the students’ or children’s safety. Schools should also provide enough information for students especially when their doing academic researches so that students will not have an excuse for being late or going out just because of gathering valid informations. Say no to Internet café near schools.

Be an Information Literate Individual! ✊🏻😊

Aquino x Cojuangco

The documentary we’ve watched about the Aquino-Cojuangco is a big revelation to us especially to some people who consider them as a good model and hero of the new era. When Ma’am Rosary started to play it, at first, i didn’t want to focus on the documentary because I was in the side, I’m using my phone and replying on my order online. Then eventually, Ma’am rosary caught what I’m doing and she compiscated my phone during that time. I’m a bit shooked of what happened and tried not to watch the documentary but because of the intriguing back ground music and graphics of it, about the reigning of Aquino hooked my attention and made me focus on the documentary. Every single revelation on the documentary shocked me. This made me realize that all of my knowledge about the clan is not enough.

The documentary started by digging the past with General Luna, and his rumored girlfriend, Ysidra Cojuangco, and the rest is history but it is more focused on General Luna’s assassination and the gold treasures of the first Philippine Republic which was said to have been with Luna’s girlfriend Ysidra Cojuangco, but up until now, this is still just a rumor. She started to buy farms and lands in Tarlac and that made her the richest woman in the 1900s. Ysidra’s brother has four sons and one of them was the father of Cory Aquino. They inherited the vast cojuangco fortune. And their family became the more powerful and influential family in the Philippines. According to a historian Derrik Manas, Cojuangco family are not rich when they come to our country, they were a business family and they also have a small businesses, some people saying that Ysidra Cojuangco have a relationship with Antonio Luna, they said that our revolution wealth was left to Ysidra Cojuangco before Luna killed in Cabanatuan and then the wealth was hidden by Ysidra. That story doesn’t have an exact evidence and proofs.

The only information that I knew about these people, by reading news about them and their story in history books before, the Family was known as “heroes” and “saviors” in Tarlac, always good and always fighting for justice. I always thought that Ninoy died for the people but the film changed what I believe in. Ninoy was about to run for president that’s why he went back to the Philippines but unluckily, he was shot to death.

Their family became more powerful as time passes. They didn’t just become powerful but they became one of the richest families in the Philippines. As said in the video, Ninoy didn’t really die for the country but for his political ambition to become a president but to beat his rival, Ferdinand Marcos. It also came to a conclusion that one of the reasons that Ninoy wanted to beat Marcos was because of her love to Imelda, Ferdinand’s wife. He wanted to prove that he was more “powerful” and “better” than Ferdinand. Going back, the reason that Noynoy is the president of the country before was because we were blinded by the truth that they were a family of cheaters and crooks since it all started to their ancestors. They treated unfairly those people who were working for them and below them and they are still promoting today Oligarchy which is a form of structure that was for the rich and powerful. And so the rich became richer while the poor became poorer. I believe that the 1987 constitution was for the Oligarchs indeed because it protected them only. They didn’t make or do anything to lessen the biggest problem of the Philippines, poverty.

In regards to the Hacienda Luisita which is currently owned by the Cojuangcos that time, the farmers weren’t given any of the supposed lands. It resulted to them fighting for their rights but instead, those who were trying to speak up for their fellow farmers were killed. Oligarchy was promoted even before and it continued running in the family.

The mistake of the film is the wealth of Cojuangco is not from first revolution wealth, the wealth was from debt by Jose Cojuangco and Corazon Cojuangco Aquino from BSP, there’s no evidence that Cojuangco’s wealth is from first revolution wealth. While the story of massacres and killings are true according to history and medias and no one arrested or punished behind the bloody crimes and they still have a position on the government and enjoying their freedom.

After reading some information about them, some idea just popped on my mind. How did they become powerful and influencial? If this Family is truly willing to serve the nation or the Filipino people, then why did they killed lots of farmers? Why did they want to be more powerful than the other families? What is the reason behind of all the Massacre?

In the video, Ninoy was labeled as a hero because he said that he died for the country for trying to end the Martial Law. But did we all think of what he was trying to do after it? He was going for his ambition to become president. For what? For power. Cory was labeled as a saint because she started the People Power Revolution to also end the Martial law. She then became president, letting her gain the title of a saint for protecting the people. But really, she wanted to protect those of her same level, the oligarchs. Kris was labeled as Magdalene because she was put on the pedestal of being the queen of media and everyone liked her. Ninoy a rockstar, because he took credit for the things he didn’t really do. This family gained these titles but most of the people in the Philippines don’t really understand why they’re titles are like that.

After reading a lot of news, article and blogs about the Aquino-Cojuango, I realized that the information given by the documentary was mostly facts and some are not.

You, reader, you must be an information literate individual because there’s a lot of fake news and biased news and articles scattered on social medias and webpages up until now, conduct your own research or find a sources of the given information to know if the information you gathered or encountered was true or not.

We should determine the extent of information needed, access the needed information effectively and efficiently, evaluate information and its sources critically, incorporate selected information into one’s knowledge base, use information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose and most specially, understand the economic, legal, and social issues surrounding the use of information, and access and use information ethically and legally. If you are able to do such thing as always, then you are an information literate individual.

The Future Media is Virtual Reality (VR).

Imagine being able to point into the sky and fly. Or perhaps walk through space and connect molecules together. These are some of the dreams that have come with the invention of virtual reality. With the introduction of computers, numerous applications have been enhanced or created. The newest technology that is being tapped is that of artificial reality, or “virtual reality” (VR).

A large amount of media interest is rapidly growing. Very few people, however, actually know that VR is that its basic principles and open problems. It is the use of computer technology to create a simulated environment. Unlike traditional user interfaces, VR places the user inside an experience. Instead of viewing a screen in front of them, users are immersed and able to interact with 3D worlds. By simulating as many senses as possible, such as vision, hearing, touch, even smell, the computer is transformed into a gatekeeper to this artificial world. The only limits to near-real VR experiences are the availability of content and cheap computing power.

Virtual Reality, meaning an artificial environment, but it can make people feel just like real-world. Using a variety of hardware and software to manipulate human senses to receive messages and helping the brain construct a fact. People in Virtual Reality and interact with virtual items, characters, and other computer technology, the biggest difference is in interactive, that is, between humans and machine has a feedback effect. The success of a virtual reality system, needs to also have high fidelity, interactive and interesting to the user feeling.

People will hear about virtual reality in all kinds of media, people will use this term very often and they will abuse it in many cases also. The reason is that this new, promising and fascinating technology, VR will undoubtedly attract and capture people’s best interest in the future. As a new user interface paradigm offers great advantages in many applications. It provides an easy, powerful, intuitive method of human-computer interaction, the user can view and manipulate the artificial environment in the same way we do in the real world, without any need to learn how complex user interface works.

Modeling of virtual reality provides the possibility to watch in real time and in real space, that of the modeled object would look like. For interior designers, who have their thumbnails. They can change the colors, textures, and position of objects, watching instantly as everything around is going to look like. Virtual Reality has also applied successfully to the modeling of surfaces. The advantage of this technology is that the user can see and even feel the surface shaped under his/her fingers. Although these works are pure laboratory experiments, it is to believe that large applications are possible in the industry for example, by the construction or improvement of forms of car or body of the aircraft directly in the virtual wind tunnel.

Stereoscopic vision is probably the most important feature of VR because in real life, people rely mainly on vision to get places and do things. The eyes are approximately 6.5 centimeters apart, and allow you to have a full-colour, three-dimensional view of the world. Stereoscopy, in itself, is not a very new idea, but the new twist is trying to generate completely new images in real-

time.

The popularity of virtual reality will rapidly increasing, 10 years from now. With this technology, students can efficiently interact with the course content and learn the material faster than the traditional methodologies. In addition to this benefit, virtual reality devices also draw the attention of young generation and this helps to the widespread use of this technology among students.

Medical researchers could use VR techniques to synthesize diagnostic images of a patient’s body to do “predictive” modeling of radiation treatment using images created by ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, and X-ray. A radiation therapist in a virtual would could view and expose a tumour at any angle and then model specific doses and configurations of radiation beams to aim at the tumour more effectively. Since radiation destroys human tissue easily, there is no allowance for error. Also, doctors could use “virtual cadavers” to practice rare operations which are tough to perform. This is an excellent use because one could perform the operation over and over without the worry of hurting any human life.
